Kinases in Activation of Platelets
The aim of this project is to determine the role of individual members of a family of proteins in regulating platelet aggregation. Blood platelets play a critical role in prevention of excessive bleeding following injury by clumping to support the formation of a vascular plug (or thrombus). Inappropriate activation of platelets within diseased blood vessels on the other hand can lead to thrombotic disorders such as stroke or heart attack, two of the biggest killers in humans.
