Modulation of vascular function by diet and oxidative stress in health and disease
Rats and mice have been selected for this programme of investigations, as there is a wealth of information in the literature on the mechanisms regulating the cardiovascular system. To enable studies of the effect of specific genes on the cardiovascular system, it is necessary to breed and study mice that have either a selective gene deletion or over-expression. We have already established that the genetic alterations produce only minimal changes to the animals and do not affect their ability to lead a normal life and breed successfully
