The role of adhesion molecules in myelination

This project is designed to promote our understanding of myelination – the process that occurs during the development of the brain that results in each nerve fibre being wrapped by layers of membrane from a specialised cell called an oligodendrocyte.  These wraps (or sheaths) are essential for both the conduction of electrical impulses and for the long-term health of the nerve fibre.
