A Mouse model of Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm/Dissection

Few other conditions demand such prompt diagnosis and treatment as aortic aneurysm/dissection (ballooning and rupture of the aorta). In patients who do not receive immediate treatment, mortality is estimated to be 35% within the initial 24 hours, 50% within 48 hours and 80% after two weeks. In England and Wales in 1996, 6163 men and 3663 women died due to an aortic aneurysm, and dissecting aneurysms accounted for about 20% of these deaths.
