Development of neural systems regulating fertility

The pituitary hormones that control fertility are controlled by a group of neurons producing gonadotrophin-releasing hormone. In all mammals including humans, these neurons originate in the nose, but migrate into the brain during embryonic development – failure of this mechanism results in lifetime infertility (Kallmann’s Syndrome). This project aims to identify key molecular signals in the mechanism through studying the migration process in post-mortem and in vitro cultured tissues from the mouse embryo.
