Relief from chronic pain by use of antidepressants
For reasons that are not understood, chronic pain is often relieved by antidepressants, but not by conventional pain-killers (e.g. morphine). A better understanding of the actions of antidepressants on nerve cells that govern animals’ behaviour and pain sensitivity could point the way to more effective treatments for depression and chronic pain.
