390: The effects of radiation on DNA synthesis and methylation

Studies of Japanese A bomb survivors and radiotherapy patients have clearly shown that one long-term health consequence of exposure is an increased risk of radiation-induced acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), which is a bone marrow cell cancer. The overall aim of our research is to establish why these particular bone marrow cells are particularly susceptible to malignant transformation by X-rays in vivo.
