165: Metabolic phenotyping of rodents

This project will investigate the regulation of energy homeostasis. In the last 20 years obesity has increased to epidemic proportions. Globally, more than 100 million people are obese.  In Britain a third of the adult population are considered obese.  Obesity increases mortality because of associated diseases such as diabetes, coronary heart disease and an increased risk of cancer. Obesity is currently the major cause of premature death in the UK, killing almost 1000 people a week.
