027: Mechanical and hormonal control of bone and joint architecture

For both animals and humans an active pain-free life style requires a skeleton that is strong enough to withstand the loads of physical activity without damage. This situation is normally achieved by bone cells using the strains which load-bearing causes within the bone tissue as a controlling stimulus to adjust bone architecture accordingly. Osteoporosis is the most widespread disease in which this relationship fails.
