478-07: Mechanism and control of cuticle plasticization

The overall aim of this project is to demonstrate how the mechanical properties of the cuticle (outer ‘skin’) of ticks influence the size of the blood meal, and to determine whether certain drugs that might inhibit the normal ‘softening’ of the cuticle during feeding might also inhibit the severity of disease transmission by ticks.
