Fingerprints and footwear marks
About fingerprint and footwear mark techniques
Our fingerprints and footwear forensic team has an international reputation.
Developing fingerprinting techniques
Over the last 35 years we have published an array of new and modified techniques to develop fingerprints on exhibits, treated either in a laboratory or at a crime scene.
Specialised methods have been developed where specific factors have to be taken into account, including:
-
treating exhibits from arson scenes
-
detecting fingerprints in blood
At all times, both the effectiveness of the techniques, and the health and safety of the practitioners are our principal concerns. More about fingerprinting methods.
Manual of Fingerprint Development Techniques
We produce the Manual of Fingerprint Development Techniques which is endorsed by the Association of Chief Police Officers and is used by every police force in the UK, and around the world.
Request copies of the Manual and its companion guide for scenes of crime, the Fingerprint Development Handbook.
